Multiple Orgasms

Multiple vs Sequential Orgasms

One orgasm directly after another, rarely experienced by women, is called a multiple orgasm. Sequential orgasms are more common and are spaced by at least several minutes between them but require additional stimulation to achieve them. So don’t be surprised if you haven’t experienced this. Many women find additional stimulation after one orgasm overwhelming or even painful. Men need more time to become erect again and, usually after their orgasm, have no interest in continuing to stimulate their partner.

If it interests you to experiment, and it should since boredom is one of the biggest complaints from both partners in a sexual relationship, talk to your partner about delaying his gratification, which—a side benefit—may intensify his orgasm, and see what you can achieve together.

Female Ejaculation

Again, since it doesn’t affect men, the subject is under-researched. There are glands in the labia that secrete extra fluids when the woman is aroused and that researchers believe, along with lubricating the labial area, sometimes send that fluid to the ureters and expel it through the urethra during orgasm. It feels like wetting yourself but supposedly isn’t urine (happened to me once and didn’t smell anything like urine), though one researcher I read said it may be a less acidic form of urine.

The volume varies among women and can be as much as a cupful or more. No one seems to know if a certain type of stimulation causes this or what biological role it might play.

The Urethra

In my day, there was no such thing as sex education. I kind of doubt even today classes go much beyond the basic genital structures and mechanics of sex. I always assumed the urethra was a structure, not just an opening. Feel stupid now but didn’t know the opening sits between the clitoris and vagina. I’d seen diagrams showing this and thought maybe I was built abnormally. It felt like the urine came from what I now know is the clitoral shaft. Of course I never asked my doctor. If the rest of you knew where the urethra sits and its structure, I’d be interested to know how you found out—people who aren’t med students.

Next week—sexual positions.
