Romantic Negotiations—con’t
The next week at work, Letitia found
herself fiddling with Ron’s Christmas present to her—a heavy silver key ring of
a latticed, bow-topped window with a potted plant and sleek cat on the
windowsill. She loved cats. She loved that Ron noticed her rooting around to
find her keys in a capacious work bag full of office paraphernalia. She
couldn’t misplace a key ring of this shape and heft.
She expected a certain letdown after the
holidays but acknowledged this year’s dug a little deeper than usual. Two weeks
away—Letitia wondered if perhaps Ron had required the time to consider his
options. Her emotions rode a roller coaster. Fear whispered he might be ready to
move on. Anger insisted he should discuss anything affecting the two of them
face to face. Reality intruded. Any business person learned that talks began
when the sides knew what they wanted to gain from them. Did she?
Ron returned and soon called to ask
Letitia out for dinner. During the holidays, they’d managed only a couple of
one-on-one dates between parties. Living forty miles apart, they preferred to
meet at locations halfway from each of their homes.
Letitia’s stomach flip-flopped as she
walked into the agreed upon restaurant. This date had a different feel, she
thought, perhaps a corner in their relationship. But did it lead to a sharp
turn, a gentle curve in the road or a dead end? She hadn’t a clue.
Friday—The Point of the Gospel, Jesus
sends out the disciples. Monday—the conclusion of the story.
